The True Meaning of Adele’s ‘Easy On Me’

Maddie VanderBoegh

Adele finally released a hit single titled “Easy on Me” on Oct. 15 after six years. Her last album and music in general were released in 2015. Adele fans were on top of the world when they heard the news that she was not only coming out with a single, but also with a whole new album shortly after the single was released. The album as a whole is set to be released on Nov. 19.

The majority of listeners just think this single is just another heartbreak sad song, but it holds a deeper meaning than that. Adele says that her album was written during “the most turbulent period” of her life as she went through a divorce with her ex-husband Simon Konecki. “Easy On Me” focuses on Adele’s childhood, broken marriage, love and abandonment and the life lessons she has learned. When one first hears the song, it is automatically a sad love song and even though it does have a deeper meaning than that, listeners can infer that it is about the divorce of her ex-husband.

Fans were more than happy with Adele’s release of “Easy on Me.” Digging deeper into the true meanings of the song makes you relate to it more, and that is something that Adele likes to focus on when writing songs. She not only writes them for herself but as well as her fans.

If you haven’t listened to “Easy on Me,” give it a listen and mark your calendars for the release of her entire album on Nov. 19
