It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is right around the corner, and everyone’s in the spirit! Christmas trees up, lights lit, stockings hung and temperatures dropping. We all have different traditions during the holidays, but the one that seems to be universal and timeless is Secret Santa, of course!

If you don’t know what Secret Santa is, you must be living under a rock; however, I’ll do the deed of explaining it. Secret Santa is often seen as a trend, but it actually has been a tradition dating back to 1948. Secret Santa begins with a group of friends or colleagues, with each member being assigned another member, for whom to provide a gift anonymously. Participants are given set price points in which they are not to exceed, providing a fun and healthy holiday activity.

Despite the belief that Secret Santa is a modern idea that hasn’t been around too long, the tradition actually dates back to the early 20th century to a man named Larry Dean Stewart. Stewart made a gag out of giving gifts anonymously. He would even hand out $100 bills on the street! Secret Santa has definitely come a long way since then.

This holiday season I hope everyone gets the chance to participate in this timely tradition! Whether it be gag gifts or pricey presents, we can all find a way to give!
