December 13, 2021
Paducah Tilghman Junior Diamond Gray scored her 1,000th career point on Friday when the Lady Tornado took on the Mayfield Lady Cardinals. Early in the second quarter at the 7:22 mark, she finished a tough layup, and in the following timeout at 7:09, it was announced that with that bucket, she had eclipsed the 1,000-point career scoring mark. She would go on to finish the night with 21 points going 6 for 12 from the field and finishing a perfect 8 for 8 at the free throw line. Gray is a 5’ 4” junior who has been playing varsity basketball for Paducah Tilghman since 7th grade and has been named to the All-District team. This season, she is averaging 19.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
During the timeout following her eclipse of this milestone, it was announced to the crowd over the PA system, and she received a multitude of applause. In this moment, “I was just excited. This is a once in a lifetime and I am honored I get to experience it.” When asked what she is looking forward to for the rest of the season she said, “I’m looking forward to getting better with my teammates and I’m looking forward to winning more games and hopefully having a successful season.”
So far, the Lady Blue Tornado are 3-1 on the season and have wins over Mayfield, Hickman County and Fulton City. They will play CCA away on Monday at 6 pm, Lyon County at home on Thursday at 7:30 and Meridian (IL) on Saturday at 2 pm before preparing for their two Christmas tournaments over winter break.
