Tornado Baseball Repeats as 2A State Champions

This past weekend the Paducah Tilghman Baseball team travelled to Owensboro, Ky., to defend their 2A State Championship. The Tornado started this tournament off at Hopkins County Central with a 9-2 win over the Union County Braves on April 15. This win made them Section 1 champions and propelled them on to Owensboro to finish the tournament.

In Owensboro, the Tornado started off Friday night against Lexington Catholic. In this game, the Tornado was able to come away with the tight 11-10 win. The Tornado would come back Saturday with two convincing wins defeating Franklin-Simpson High School 12-6 in the semifinal and defeating Lawrence County 14-2 to bring home the championship.

Tilghman also put four players on the All-Tournament Team and had the Tournament MVP. Junior Levin East was named the Tournament MVP, along with being named to the All-Tournament Team. Senior Gage Griggs, senior Zion LaGrone, and junior Devin Kiebler were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

The team followed up the tournament win going eight and one over the next two weeks with their only loss coming to McCracken County 4-1. The team currently sits at 23-4 for the season with four games left in the regular season. They will finish off the season at Carlisle County on May 10 at 5:30, followed by three home games against McCracken County on May 11 at 6:30 and against Warren East and Union County on May 14 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. respectively before heading into the district two tournament.
