PTHS Exceptional Performance At Region 1, Class AA Regionals
May 18, 2022
On May 14, the PTHS track team participated in the region 1 class AA meet. PTHS Boys won the meet, qualifying for state, winning by around 40 points, with the Girls coming in second, also qualifying for state.
One of the most exceptional performances of that meet, was the 100m dash in which Tilghman student, Luke Birdsong (12), ran a 10.62 beating out some of the fastest Tilghman sprinters ever, including the current track coach, Randy Wyatt. Luke Birdsong also won the 200m dash, gaining even more points for the boys team.
Kylan Ware (9) won his race of 400m and Liam Black (10) won the 1600m, both qualifying for state. Paducah Tilghman earned points in the relays too, winning the 4×1, 4×2, and the 4×4. Camden Marshall (12) won his event in the long jump, jumping a 21-03. J’sean Tyler (12) and Dale Young (12) won the triple jump and pole vault, respectively. PTHS also gained first in both throwing events with Riley Darnell (11) winning discus, and J.T. Adams (11) winning the boys’ shot put.
On the girls’ side of the team, Maisie Harris (12) won the event of the 200m dash, running a 26.47. Tilghman Girls also won in the 100m hurdles in which Kauri Whitfield (11) won, and in the 300m hurdles Diamond Gray (11) got first, for both to gain points for their team. In the relays, the girls won both the 4×1 and 4×2. Jaaliyah Biggers (12) won both the long jumps and the triple jump, and Jaelynn Carver-Smith (11) won the shot put on the girl’s team.
Both teams competed very well at regionals and there could be a very good set up for a state championship this year.
