Tilghman Football Prepared to Win this Weekend

The first football game of the season is this Saturday at 7 p.m. against the McCracken County Mustangs. This will be Tilghman’s first home game at McRight Field Memorial Stadium on the new field. The new artificial turf field was completed last week and the track is planned to be finished in September. Many players and fans are thrilled for another good season and hope to win this weekend to get off to a hot start. Tilghman is coming off an impressive season from last year, finishing runner-up at state and finished the season with an 8-7 record.

Last year the Tornado handled business and beat the mustangs on McCracken’s home turf with a final score of 35-27. This continued the two-year win streak, and the team is ready to make it three years this Saturday. Jack James (10) was named the WPSD Athlete of the Year and looks to get off to an impressive start this weekend, along with running back Malachi Rider (11) who was named the third best player in WPSD Gridiron Glory.

McCracken County’s head coach had this to say about Malachi, “That kid has no quit in his bones… it’s going to take more than one person to bring Malachi down.”

This game is also McCracken County’s Coach Smith’s first head coaching job since he left Paducah Tilghman two years ago to pursue an assistant coaching job at McCracken.

Tilghman is also prepared for anything to come their way on the defensive side, with allowing zero points scored in a scrimmage against Jackson North last week.

Both teams and schools are excited for high school football to be back, and students can’t wait to show school spirit.

There is a tailgate hosted by CFSB at 5pm in the Innovation Hub parking lot.

This game is the game of the week, and any student is welcome to join the student section and dress according to the beach theme and the student section is hoping for a big turnout.
