HOSA Club Offers Opportunities for Students Interested in the Medical Field

Grace Mabry

A new school year has started, so it is time to find clubs and activities that interest you. Tilghman has a variety of different clubs, including the HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America or Future Health Professionals) Club. The HOSA club is a great option, especially if you are part of the health science pathway, but it is not required to be in the pathway to join the club.

Mrs. Crivello and Mrs. Polsgrove are the teachers who supervise the club activities. In March, the club members will travel to Louisville to compete in different events. Some events you can compete in include a medical spelling bee, EMT emergency procedures, medical debates, medical trivia and many other medical events. During meetings, you will have time to work on the events that you are competing in, as well as hear medical guest speakers.

The HOSA club is having a meeting Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 2:15 p.m. on the social staircase in the Innovation Hub to discuss club activities, fundraisers and officer elections and to vote on when the meetings will be held in the future.

Anyone who wants to run for an officer position can, as long as they have a teacher’s recommendation.

This club is an amazing opportunity if you plan on pursuing a career in the medical field after graduation because it will help you develop the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in whatever area of medicine you are interested in.

It is also a great club to join if you are not sure what field of medicine you want to continue working in because you will be able to get an idea of what you are best at.
