On August 28, at the MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift was awarded video of the year, Best Longform video and Best Direction for her short film music video for “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien.

As Swift accepted the awards, she announced she was releasing her 10th studio album. The album is titled “Midnights” and will be released on Oct. 21, with 13 songs on the album. Swift describes “Midnights” as “The Stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.”

The announcement of an entirely new album surprised many fans because of the ongoing process of rerecording her previous albums.

The significance of Taylor announcing the release of a new album while at the VMAs is that 13 years ago, at the VMAs, she was rudely interrupted by Kanye West in the middle of accepting her award for her “You Belong with Me” music video.

For those who do not keep up with Taylor Swift in the media, she is known for planning things years in advance and hiding hints and small details in her social media posts and song discography. One detail she leaves everywhere is the number 13. She has stated in past interviews that 13 is her lucky number. She says, “Whenever 13 comes up in my life, it’s a good thing”.

The news of a new album is very exciting. There is even more, to look forward to from Taylor Swift as she continues to work on her previous albums along with “Midnights.”
