Men’s Choir Performs at KMEA Conference

Paducah Tilghman’s Men’s Choir will present a concert at the 2023 Kentucky Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference. The ensemble is one of four high school choirs to be selected through an audition process for this prestigious honor.

This year marks the third time a PTHS choral ensemble has performed at the conference under the direction of Mr. Matt Hinz. The 2022-2023 Men’s Choir is comprised of 34 singers, 19 of whom were also individually selected to sing in various KMEA All-State Choirs this weekend.

The ensemble members have been looking forward to this performance for weeks. Leyton Morris, a freshman, said the best part of performing the concert is “how strong we all are together and how all of our voices blend with each other” and “how we can all come together and do something that we love for the community.”

Tilghman’s Men’s Choir is conducted by Mr. Hinz and accompanied by Mrs. Devonda Treece. The concert will be presented Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville at 3:45 p.m.

The performance is comprised of eight selections in a variety of languages, including “Ave Maria,” Franz Schubert’s “Widerspruch” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Mr. Hinz said he is “very proud of how hard the guys have worked this year. We learned almost every song in a month, so it was a very quick process.” He is especially grateful for “the great group of seniors leading the way.”
