PTHS Drama Partners with Local Theatre

PTHS Drama Partners with Local Theatre

PTHS Drama is still flourishing even after the director leaving! That said, PT has partnered with local community theatre, Market House Theatre. Education Director, Emily Griffin, arrives to Paducah Tilghman for 2nd period to teach the Introduction to Theatre class. This provides students with top-notch theatre quality to access better skills throughout the performing arts. It not only provides students with performance skills, but backstage and stage management skills as well. Market House Theatre Education Director Griffin states, “I am glad I am able to come Tilghman every day and teach students about all things theatre.”

For a little bit about Griffin, Education Director, “Emily Griffin graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. in Communication and Theatre Education. She was also the recipient of the Purple and Old Gold Award for Conspicuous Achievement in Performance Studies. She completed her student teaching in St. Paul, Minnesota at Central High School working with the Central Touring Theatre. Emily taught at the Des Moines Playhouse for ten years after completing two summer internships at the Playhouse. Emily’s first teaching job was at Central Middle School in Columbia Heights, Minnesota before returning to Iowa to take over as the director of Hoover Drama at Hoover High School in Des Moines Iowa. In addition to directing an award-winning theatre program, Emily taught classes in performance, technical theatre, and musical theatre. She enjoys writing plays for young actors and has had several plays receive All-State nominations with the Iowa High School Speech Association. She loves to spend time with her three nephews, Arlo, Hayes, and Gabriel.”

Market House Theatre has been around for various years and has gifted students with plenty of Theatre Educational Opportunities. They provide dance classes, footlights (Saturday Morning Drama Classes) and they provide musicals/play that are free to be in.  Paducah Tilghman High is very lucky to have this high-quality advancement for the Drama Department.
