Paducah Tilghman has always been able to take pride in its choir. Students in choir have taken part in many different honors, but a consistent honor that has been attended for many years by various students is the Kentucky All-State Choir. Paducah Tilghman represents and collaborates with the best choir students that this state has to offer at this All-State Choir.
Getting to participate in Kentucky All-State Choir is a selective process that requires in-person auditions. Auditions include singing a voice part in a quartet and sight-reading, which is singing a new piece of music for the first time. It takes a lot of time to learn the music that is sung in the quartet and practice to get ready for this audition process. Many students end up getting cut from the honor choir, but Paducah Tilghman has always had many students make it.
After making it into the choir, students attend the 3-day conference in Louisville, KY. Paducah Tilghman students collaborate with other Kentucky students in a large choir that learns music to perform in a concert at the end of the 3 days. Senior Choir student, Weslyn Durfee, offers her opinion on her All-State Choir experience. “All-State is a great opportunity to meet others with musical talent and have fellowship in choir.” This experience is one that students take pride in, and it is an honor Paducah Tilghman can take pride in as well.
As auditions near for this year’s All-State Choir, Tilghman choir prepares to send its next round of students. Students have been preparing for auditions for about 2 weeks, and auditions are to be held October 24, 2023 at McCracken County High School.
