Tilghman Hosts Scholastic Chess Tournament!

A few weeks ago, Paducah Tilghman Chess team held a chess tournament for pre-K through K-12 students. It lasted from 10 AM to 4 PM ending with a total of 4 rounds. The teams that played in the tournament included: Murry Elementary and Middle, 1 Homeschool Elementary school, Sedalia Elementary, Calloway County Middle & Highschool, Loan Oak Middle, Reader Classical Academy (Private School) [1-5th and won 1st place in a k8 section], Paducah Tilghman, middle & Head start, Livingston Highschool, and McCracken County Highschool.

The Chess tournament contained 47 players with the following on the score board:

  • 1st place went to McCracken County Highschool with a total of 13 Points.
  • 2nd place went to Livingston County Highschool with a total of 9.5 Points.
  • 3rd place went to Paducah Tilghman Highschool with a total of 7.5 Points.
  • 4th place went to Calloway County Highschool with a total of 7 Points.

 

The following are the points that each Paducah Tilghman player won:

Newbern, Tré – 4.0 Cope, Arrianna – 2.0 Minter, Kilee – 2.0
Thompson, Keaton – 2.0 Banjamin, Elijah – 1.5 Goodyke, Preston – 1.5
Rush, Zoey – 1.5 Canles, Max – 1.0 Misiewicz, Aiden – 1.0

 

The Paducah Tilghman Chess team consists of 12 players and has chess practices of Mondays and Tuesdays from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Everyone is welcome to join the club as it helps attain quicker problem-solving skills and lets you become more open minded. Chess tournaments can also be fun, sometimes we travel to tournaments (paid for by the school), and sometimes there are cash prizes as rewards for the winners.

Arrianna Cope is a senior at Paducah Tilghman. She is a member of the chess team and is an attendee of Beta Club. She excels in the study of medical terminology and phlebotomy. She embraces her ancestral history by following indigenous people online and joining groups such as African American Leadership. When she has free time outside of going to school and working at Chick-fil-a Arrianna likes to listen to music and hang out with friends. Arrianna wants to pursue her dream of becoming a travel nurse so she can travel around the world and meet new people and try new things.
