Youth LEAD Class 13 attends first retreat

Last week, the Youth LEAD recipients were named leading up to their first retreat scheduled for Wednesday, November 1st. Yesterday 9 students from Paducah Tilghman High School attended the opening retreat at the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce Center. This retreat lasted from 8:30am to 2:30pm.

During Wednesday’s retreat, 35 High School Juniors gathered to learn about the Chamber and what all they do for the Paducah Area, hints its name Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce. 4 different schools were combined in the room yesterday where students were able to interact with different students throughout a day full of Team-Building activities and personality tests. Students were provided a lunch and drinks and snacks free of cost, all day long. Students were provided with future meeting dates and plans for the meeting topics. Students are very excited to return in a month for the next retreat and to work on their group projects with a mix of McCracken, CCA, and St. Mary Juniors.

Junior CoryOn Brooks was asked “What was your favorite activity yesterday at the first retreat?” He said, “the mock Interviews. I really enjoyed it as it prepared us for potential real-world interviews. And for the people that have done interviews before, it showed them what they could have done better and what they can do next time to stand out. In general, I think it was a very useful life-lesson that can take us a long way with whatever journey we plan to embark when the time comes for us to begin with our future careers.”

Junior Erica Wurth was asked, “Which part of Youth LEAD are you looking forward to most in the coming month?” She said, “I am looking forward to touring the arts centers that Paducah has to offer because it represents our vibrant creative community which is unique for our small town.”
