Olivia Rodrigo, a 17-year-old singer and actress, amazes the whole world with her debut single, Driver’s License. This song was released in January 2021 and has already made it to the top of the charts within weeks. Olivia Rodrigo passed Ariana Grande for Biggest Single-Day Streams on U.S. Spotify. Within 4 days of the release, she was already topping charts and setting records. 

This song was written by Olivia nearly 6 months ago whenever she got her license. This song is a love song, or more specifically a heartbreak song. This song is presumably about Joshua Bassett, an actor in which Olivia works with in High School Musical:  The Musical. The title “Driver’s License” came from the fact that Joshua was teaching Olivia how to drive prior to getting her license. He decided he didn’t want to continue their relationship because of their age difference, which is about 3 years. One of the lines from this song goes, “and you’re probably with that blonde girl.” Who is the blonde girl you may ask? Sabrina Carpenter, a 21-year-old singer and actress. Sabrina was Joshua’s celebrity crush long before he met Olivia, so naturally when he got the opportunity to be with her, he did. This broke Olivia’s heart, and she did what she knew would be a good coping method, writing a song. Little did she know, this song would touch the hearts of many.  

However, Sabrina Carpenter struck back with her single, “Skin.” Not very many people were happy about this because she was presumably attacking Olivia in her song, which is the opposite of what Olivia did. Olivia took this like a champ and is still holding her Spotify record and many more. If you haven’t listened to this song yet, you will not be disappointed.
