Away from the courts or the field, the Paducah Tilghman’s golf season is off to a strong start. This year’s team includes Brayden Stroud (12), Jack Butts (11), Peyton Toon (9), Whitson McNeil (9), and Gray Edwards (7). The season began on July 30 at the Murray High School Invitational, where Jack Butts finished in fourth place with a score of 73 and Peyton Toon and Whitson McNeil both placed eighth with a score of 80. For the first time in 20 years all of the players on the team at the time placed in the top eight.
“For the first time in my 12 years these three young men finished in the top eight out of 72 players, but we still have many things we can improve on,” Coach Larimer said. “But for this brief moment I would like to say well done, I’m so proud of the hard work these young men have put into their game,” he said.
The team recently competed in the 2A regional championship where they finished second and Jack Butts and Peyton Toon both qualified to compete in the 2A state championship in Owensboro. The team’s next tournament is Aug. 28 at Metropolis Country Club.
The season has about a month until the regional championship at Paducah Country Club on Sept. 28, where the team is hoping to qualify for the state championship.
