At Paducah Tilghman Highschool, a few new rules have been enforced to students and staff members. Some of these new rules that many students, staff, and parents have mixed opinions about. These rules include a zero-phone policy and new dress code rules. We asked students and teachers a variety of questions for their opinion about the phone and dress code rules and here are a few of their responses.
A student known as “Will Dorsey” was asked for his opinion on how the new rules are affecting grades, focus, and drama. Will told us that he agrees with the new phone policy because it allows students to focus on their schoolwork and has noticed an improvement in students’ grades. We also asked if he believed there has been less cyberbullying and drama in school. Will believes it depends on the person. He believes there has been a lot less drama considering the sharing of information on social media has highly decreased. Will also believe that the dress code is appropriate for school because while we are in a school environment, we should dress accordingly to what is appropriate.
Ronny Stroud is known as the Dean at Paducah Tilghman Highschool and agrees with the new and enforced rules about phone and dress code. Mr. Stoud believes that without phones being a distraction in class, there would have been an improvement in grades and could help students focus better. Mr. Stroud also believes that without cellphones, teachers have seen students make higher test scores and classwork grades.
We also asked Slankard Patti for her opinion on the phone rule. Mrs. Slankard personally enjoys the phone Caddys and has noticed a significant difference in students focus and grades. As we have asked many people the same questions, we hear the same answers. Many teachers are enjoying the zero-cell phone policy our school has recently enforced for staff and students. It has been proven by many teachers who teach at PTHS that they have seen a big difference in grades, cyberbullying, focus and more just by putting your phone away for 45 minutes.
