Palm Bay Man Arrested after Crashing into Police Vehicle, Leading High-Speed Pursuit

Palm Bay, FL – A 25-year-old man was arrested early Monday after authorities say he intentionally crashed into a Palm Bay police vehicle, led officers on a high-speed chase with his headlights off, and resisted arrest, police said. The suspect, identified as Anthony Devon Nunnally, now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

Intentional Crash and Reckless Pursuit

According to a probable cause affidavit, Palm Bay officers were assisting with traffic control at a crash near Walden and Wyoming Drive SE around 2 a.m. when a sergeant reported a reckless driver speeding toward the scene. Moments later, the vehicle intentionally collided with the sergeant’s police car before fleeing the scene.

Officers pursued Nunnally with lights and sirens activated. During the chase, he allegedly continued at excessive speeds for approximately two miles, turned off his headlights, and drove with “wanton disregard for public safety.”

The pursuit ended near Seven Gables Drive and Koutnik Road SE, where Nunnally lost control, went airborne, and crashed into a parked car at 799 Seven Gables Circle SE.

Struggle During Arrest

When officers approached, Nunnally attempted to run but stumbled into a ditch, refusing commands. Police used a Taser with little effect before being able to handcuff him.

The sergeant involved in the initial crash was taken to a hospital for treatment but was released after care. Nunnally was also transported for medical evaluation. Officers noted he smelled of alcohol and was slurring his words, prompting a DUI investigation at the hospital.

Charges Filed

Following the incident, Nunnally was charged with:

  • Aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer
  • Aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer
  • Fleeing and eluding
  • DUI with property damage
  • DUI with personal injury
  • Refusal to submit to DUI testing
  • Resisting an officer without violence
  • Leaving the scene of a crash with minor injuries
  • Multiple counts of leaving the scene with property damage

He was later turned over to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office to face charges.

Public Safety Concerns

Authorities stressed the dangerous nature of fleeing drivers, particularly those who disable headlights and drive recklessly in residential areas. Officers remind residents to stay clear of traffic stops and allow law enforcement to respond safely during emergencies.

Conclusion

A Palm Bay man faces multiple charges after intentionally crashing into a police vehicle, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit, and resisting arrest. The incident highlights the serious risks posed by reckless driving and confrontations with law enforcement.
